For years my husband has been heard exclaiming from the kitchen, “Why didn’t anyone put a new stick of butter out?!” when trying to butter his bread with a cold stick of butter. So, this Christmas Santa gave the gift of Family Harmony and put one of these brilliant devices in his stocking. We all start the day a little more peacefully now – knowing everyone will be able to spread their butter whether or not someone did or did not remember to put out a new stick of butter. 🙂

I love these knives. I ordered the two pack so I could share with my parents. I don’t like leaving my butter out, so I’ve always struggled with hard butter and ripping my toast. That struggle is now in the past. This knife creates thin little ribbons of butter, that spread much more easily and don’t tear the toast. It also cleans up well in the dishwasher, which is a plus!

My brother and his wife received a knife like this as a wedding present and I had to try it for myself. I only buy real butter and I keep in the fridge, so this is so helpful to get the right amount of butter to spread on toast. It really is a neat little find!

Got this as a Christmas gift for my dad and he loves it! He always tries to shave off the top of hard butter with a normal butter knife so I thought this would be a funny gift, but it actually works great and he loves it!

This butter knife does make it easier to spread cold butter on something hot. Living in the hot, humid South on the Mississippi River, I have tried things like “butter bells”, but the butter ended up swimming in the water. This is a pretty good compromise and does help the real butter that I prefer to use melt more quickly on my hot toast.

It’s a little tricky figuring out the correct angle to make it work, but someone listed a video which helps. And I discovered it’s such a small angle, the knife is nearly flat on the stick if hard butter. It will work, the angle has to be just right.

We have been storing our butter at room temperature for years, raised some eyebrows from family in the past but now they know that it’s perfectly safe. Also, we tend to use less butter so it’s good for the waistline as well. I lost the butter knife that came with my original silverware set, thought I’d order another one and ran across this cool gadget. It works great on soft butter, will probably work well on hard butter but I don’t have any because that’s not how we roll. I’ve included a video so you can see how it works. It’s really neat, and disregard the needy child in the background. It’s hard to find a moment where he starts screaming mommy so my apologies.

So I got this butter spreader about 3 days ago and put it in the dishwasher to get cleaned. When the cycle was done my knife has rusts in 4 holes. I did try to clean the rust off manually before I took the photo. But still something brand new shouldn’t rust on its first wash cycle.

I’d give this 4.5 stars…. but only because I don’t really know how to work it yet, lol.First, it’s really well made and durable. This is not a flimsy tool.I think I probably need to search for a video on the right way to hold it to make those curls, etc. because there was no video and I didn’t manage it on my own… however, it did make my cold, hard butter easier to spread, so I guess it got the job done and that’s the point, right?

Great service and it’s a very nicely made product but it doesn’t work like I thought. It’s very difficult to “shave” the butter like it appears in the picture. Maybe you cannot use on butter right out of the fridge and maybe I’ll get better at using it.
